Krystallisert

No13 contemporary - Solo exhibition

The word crystal comes from ancient Greek and means both ice and stone crystal. And that is precisely the phenomenon of crystallization Elisabeth has worked with, and developed techniques and knowledge about this exhibition.

Elisabeth made her first ice shoe in 2015. But that shoe has melted away and not left a single trace of existence. Since then several shoes have been made of among other things: sugar and various salts which have crystallized in different ways. The challenge has been to experiment with a process formula for how to get the same expression with a more permanent material. For this exhibition at No13 contemporary, she tries to stick to the crystals' existence on various objects, textiles and carpet fragments, to the extent that it will be possible; for more people to discover and experience the magical beauty and universe of crystallization!

Elisabeth Thorsen shoe exhibition

This exhibition was held at Fredrikstad Kunstforening in 2014.

I approached the project as I would when making pieces of art,
not merely functional footwear.I wanted my shoes to be an aesthetic
expression, pleasing to the eye as well as challenging to fully grasp.

The exhibition also features photographer Tonje Kornelie and designer
Mari Jaeger, who have collaborated with me on this project.
